Sleeves

Using smaller double pointed needles, CO 36 (44, 44) sts. Join into the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker to indicate beg of round. Work border pattern for 2½". Change to larger double pointed needles.

Round 1: K10 (14, 14), P2, K2, P2, K4, P2, K2, P2, K10 (14, 14). Maintaining rib pattern as established, and changing to 16" circular needle when you can, inc 1 st at beg and end of every 6th round 16 (15, 18) times — 68 (74, 80) sts. Continue without shaping until piece measures 19" (20", 21") from beg. Place sts on holder and set aside.

Body

Using smaller 32" circular needle, CO 192 (208, 224) sts. Join into the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beg of round. Work border pattern for 2". Change to larger 32" circular needle.

Round 1: * {K2, P2} 4 times, K64 (72, 80), {P2, K2} 4 times, rep from * once more.

Rep this round until piece measures 18" from beg.

Join body and sleeves

Maintaining rib pattern as established on all pieces, work 96 (104, 112) sts for front, 68 (74, 80) sts from holder for right sleeve, 96 (104, 112) sts for back, and 68 (74, 80) sts from holder for left sleeve — 328 (356, 384) sts. Place a marker on first and last sts of front and back sections — 4 marked “seam” sts.

Yoke

Maintaining rib pattern as established, and changing to shorter circular needles when necessary, K1, * P1, work to 2 sts before marked st, P1, dbl dec, rep from * to end of round, ending with P1. Rep this round 9 (10, 11) times more — 248 (268, 288) sts.

Next round: * work to 1 st before marked st, P1, SSK, P1, work to 2 sts before next marked st , P1, K2tog, P1, rep from * to end of round.

Next Round: K.

Rep last 2 rounds 12 (13, 14) times more — 196 (212, 228) sts.

Next round: * work to 2 sts before marked st, P1, k2tog, P1, work to 1 st before next marked st, P1, SSK, P1, rep from * to end of round.
Rep this round 25 (29, 33) times more — 92 sts.

Shape Back Neck
Maintaining rib pattern as established, work to third marked st (between back and left sleeve). W&T. Work back to second marked st. W&T. Work to 2 sts before first turn. W&T. Work back to 2 sts before second turn. W&T. Work to end of round.

Neckband

Change to smaller 16" circular needle and work border pattern for 1". BO loosely.

Finishing

Weave in ends, using ends to close up any gaps at underarms.
Block to finished measurements.

17 sts and 24 rows = 4" in st st using larger needles.

 

NOTE
This sweater is seamless. The body and two sleeves are worked separately to the armholes, then joined and worked in one piece to the neck.
