Back

With MC, CO 61 (71, 76, 86) sts.

Row 1 (RS): K2, * P2, K3, rep from * to last 4 sts, end with P2, K2.

Row 2 (WS): P2, * K2, P3, rep from * to last 4 sts, end with K2, P2.

Continue in ribbing as established until piece measures 4" (4", 4½", 5"), ending with a WS row.

Next row (RS): K2, {P2, K3} 1 (1, 1, 2) times, P2, K to last 9 (9, 9, 14) sts inc 2 (0, 3, 1) sts evenly across these sts, P2, {K3, P2} 1 (1, 1, 2) times, K2 — 63 (71, 79, 87) sts.

Continue working as established, with center panel in st st and ribbing on sides, until piece measures 12½" (12½", 13", 13½"), ending with a WS row.

Shape Armholes
BO 5 sts at beg of next 2 (2, 2, 4) rows.

Next row (dec row): K2, P2, SSK, K to last 6 sts, K2tog, P2, K2.

Continue in pattern as established, rep dec row every RS row 3 (3, 3, 0) times more — 45 (53, 61, 65) sts.

Continue without shaping until piece measures 18¾" (19¼", 20", 21"). Break yarn. Place first 13 (13, 15, 17) sts on one holder, center 19 (27, 31, 31) sts on a second holder, and final 13 (13, 15, 17) sts on a third holder.

Front

With MC, CO 61 (71, 76, 86) sts.

Row 1 (RS): K2, * P2, K3, rep from * to last 4 sts, end with P2, K2.

Row 2 (WS): P2, * K2, P3, rep from * to last 4 sts, end with K2, P2.

Continue in ribbing as established until piece measures 4" (4", 4½", 5"), ending with a WS row.

Next row (RS): K2, {P2, K3} 1 (1, 1, 2) times, P2, K to last 9 (9, 9, 14) sts inc 2 (0, 3, 1) sts evenly across these sts, P2, {K3, P2} 1 (1, 1, 2) times, K2 — 63 (71, 79, 87) sts.

Next row (WS): P2, {K2, P3} 1 (1, 1, 2) times, K2, P45 (53, 61, 59), K2, {P3, K2} 1 (1, 1, 2) times, P2.

Next row (RS): Work rib as established over first 9 (9, 9, 14) sts, K8 (12, 16, 15), work row 1 of chart over next 29 sts, K8 (12, 16, 15) work rib as established over last 9 (9, 9, 14) sts.

Continue working as established with chart pattern over center 29 sts, through row 51 of chart.

Shape Front Neck
Next row (WS): Work 31 (35, 39, 43) sts, attach second ball of yarn and BO center st, work with second ball to end of row. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 9 (13, 15, 15) times. At the same time, when same length as back to armholes, shape armholes as for back — 13 (13, 15, 17) sts rem on each side. Continue without shaping until armhole measures 6 ½" (7", 7 ¼", 7 ¾"). Note that front armhole is intended to be slightly longer than back armhole. Place sts on stitch holders.

Finishing

Join Front to Back at shoulders using 3 needle BO.

Place center back sts on 24" circular needle. Join yarn at left shoulder seam. With RS facing, pick up and K 50 sts down left front neck edge and 50 sts up right front neck edge — 119 (127, 131, 131) sts. Using double pointed needle in right hand, work knitted cord edging as follows: CO 3 sts to left hand needle tip using cable CO method. * K2, SSK, sl these 3 sts back to left hand needle, draw yarn across WS and rep from * until all sts around neckline have been worked. Graft ends of cord together.

Using crochet hook to work chain embroidery with color B as indicated on chart.

Sew side seams.

Weave in end and block gently to finished measurements.

Note
Diamond pattern is worked from chart using the intarsia technique. Narrow lines are added with crochet chain embroidery.
